You May Have To Get A Day Job To Succeed In Your MLM Opportunity (Gulp)

What’s keeping your from getting results in your MLM opportunity? As I point out in this video, you may need to take a step back and ask some hard questions…

Did you know that getting a day job may in fact be one of the best things you can do for your MLM opportunity?

Now, that may sound crazy, but let me share with you something I experienced while attending a seminar not too long ago in my hometown of Los Angeles. An event hosted by a massively successful female entrepreneur by the name of Dani Johnson.

It happened on the last day of the conference as the subject of doubt was being discussed and a woman in the audience – we’ll call her Jane – took the mic…

She Admitted To Be Struggling In Her MLM Opportunity.

“There’s no money coming in”, Jane said with a lump in her throat…. “I’ve been at it for months, working my business from early morning till late at night, and I still don’t see any results.”

She continued: “I’ve spent all my savings and I don’t know where the money’s going to come from to pay next month’s bills and – ”

She stopped mid-sentence as Dani raised her hand to hush her: “Wait, wait, wait! What are you saying?! You don’t have a j.o.b.?”

Jane looked surprised. “No. I work my MLM opportunity full-time. MORE than full-time, in fact.”

“Well, that’s the problem right there,” said Dani in her usual straight-forward style. “You need to go get a job!”

Chuckles could be heard in the audience.

Everyone thougt she was joking. Jane lowered the mic a little and just stood there with a slight smile on her face. I suppose she was waiting for a punch line of some sort. But it didn’t come.

“You need to go hire yourself a boss”, said Dani. “This way you’ll have a steady source of income to fund your MLM opportunity. And then you won’t have to worry about how you’re going to pay your bills.”

She added: “Now you won’t sound all desperate and stressed out and needy when you get on the phone with prospects. And your leads will actually want to listen to you and sign up to work with you!”

By now the audience was nodding…

As for Jane, you could tell part of her was resisting what she was hearing, yet she listened intently. (People tend to listen when multi-millionaires give advice.)

Dani continued: “Your prospect will feel your energy, for good or for bad. And remember, they’re not actually buying an MLM opportunity. They’re buying a lifestyle…”

“And you, my friend, are representing that lifestyle to them. If they pick up – and they will – that you’re frustrated and overworked, do you think they’ll join you? Of course not. That’s not the lifestyle they want, is it?”

Even Jane was now nodding slowly in agreement. “You need to go hire yourself a boss,” said Dani again. “So that you can build your MLM opportunity effectively around your day job. ”

A moment’s pause. “You’re right”, said Jane. The truth had sunk in. She may not have liked what she heard, but she got the point.

What’s keeping you from getting results in your MLM opportunity?

It may not be that you need to get a day job. Perhaps you’re already building your MLM opportunity part-time around your job. But there may be something else that’s slowing you down – holding you back even.

One thing is for certain: We’re all constantly faced with various challenges we have to overcome to achieve our goals.

And the key is always to look within first for the solutions. Not to make excuses. Not to play the blame game.

Take full responsibility for our own results, or lack thereof, but then also let the past be the past and make a conscious decision to turn things around. And then TAKE ACTION on what we know.

If you’re not yet experiencing success in your MLM opportunity, it doesn’t mean it’s “never” going to happen. But it does mean you’ll likely have to make a mindset shift in order for your circumstances to begin to shift.

It’s the same for every single one of us: Real, lasting change starts within… Amen?

  1. tnks. am highly motivated by your posts, ideas and talks.Only for me to move out and reach them out there.

The woman in the audience sounds like me!
I started my network marketing business part-time as I was working full-time as a corporate accountant. When I lost my job to lay-offs, I decided to give my all and found some measure of success. My attitude is positive and people enjoy working with me. But I’m BROKE! This post was extremely disappointing as I don’t see how I can work full-time at a day JOB and really build my business the way I want. Bummer!

    • Lena Bjorna says:

Well, there are certainly plenty of folks that have built their fortunes around full time jobs…

      • Michelle says:

Absolutely!! I know quite a few who have and they are a true inspiration. It’s a personal decision as to how many years one is willing to sacrifice. For those of us with physical disabilities, and are unable to work more than 10 hours a day, it may just take a little bit longer. :-)
Thank You for your response. A good reminder.

  3. I have seen Dani three times in Los Angeles, and she is like the Suze Orman of the Network Marketing and home business industry. Just tell it like it is in very practical terms, and be prudent.

Not a lot of fluff, but real world practical ideas and applications to get business going on the side of one’s job until they can “figure it out” so to speak and make a full time living from home.

Anyway, with that, great post. HF day1charitydonation

That is a great post…..having no cashflow STOPS your business in it’s tracks……sometimes before it can get going…..part-time should be stressed more by leaders…..GREAT post…..Thanks

  5. Great post on the importance of having enough money coming in each month, in order to feel confident about one’s financial situation! It is so tempting after looking at the income possibilities in network marketing to refuse to go to work for someone else…But oftentimes, that’s what is necessary – at least temporarily – in order for struggling marketers to be able to afford autoships, systems, trainings, leads, etc. to truly position themselves for success.

  6. Leo Conlon says:

Great Post, Lena, you do not need the extra baggage of bill,s hanging over you, it will always show through, Leo

Dani Johnson’s great! Thanks for sharing this story with your perspective added. I do find I relate to the woman at the conference… hard to remain cool & detached when $ is tight.

  10. Esslyne says:

I already have a job part time so I know that this is the way to do it. There is only a little matter that I would like help with – generating the leads. How do I know if I am doing it right? I have been at it for several weeks and I have not had any. Any tips??

  11. Reynaldo M. Reyta says:

First of all thanks very much for this message, Go hire
yourself a boss, that’s true with me because I can’t do it considering that I am a migrant worker and under contract, I’m just waiting for my residency status before I can pursue with whatever opportunities and hopefully success with your sales program. Again thank you and more power. Regards.

    • Lena Bjorna says:

Reynaldo, I know exactly what you mean! It was only a few years ago that I was waiting for my residency. Hang in there – it will be worth it!

  12. barry says:

bravo! a positive spin on common sense! the only thing worse than having a job is not having a job for the vast majority of us until we own the company. (or inherit the trust fund… make that 0.5% of us). that goes for real estate, mlm, or any other dream-catcher system we employ to save ourselves from the rat race.

  13. Shaki says:

    Amen!
Great post. It makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing.

  15. Nadia says:

Brilliant and very true! Even if you have a Wellness Club like myself, where you sell Wellness Products from two different MLM’s (great that I can combine the two), I still like to have this as a part-time job around my other job, my only steady income for the time being. Also, with time, I hope to recruit colleagues from my job into my business :)
