The only difference between ‘try’ and ‘triumph’ is a little ‘umph’… (How to rise above your circumstances and take back your life)

When I woke up and looked out the window this morning, I saw THIS!

This beautiful flower had popped overnight…right outside our bedroom window!

The other day we discovered that one of the trees in our back yard is in fact an orange tree…we didn’t even know until several days after moving in. (And we also have a lemon tree in front of the house.)

I’m just taking it all in…discovering my new surroundings…much like a toddler picked up from his crib and placed on the floor of a large room filled with new toys.

Waking up in the morning and heading down the hallway to my office is a tremendous feeling. A REAL office…a separate room.

Having space and quiet, a place where I can concentrate fully, focus, create…it’s not something one should take for granted. I know that all to well.

The first 13 1/2 years of our life together, my husband and I lived in a one-bedroom apartment in a noisy apartment building.

We ate, slept and worked in the same place. Hubby couldn’t toast bread while I was conducting conference calls, or my mike would pick up the noise – that’s how small the place was. Seriously.

We always dreaded summer, because then all the kids in the building would be in the pool – a pool that was situated right outside our living room/office window.

The screaming from the kids was unbearable. It would go on and on for hours. Even through closed windows we could hear them.

Countless were the times when I had to pick up my laptop and go into the bedroom… (which also functioned as a storage room with clothes and boxes piled high).

Sitting down on the bed with my computer in my lap would be the only way I could get any work done. (Although I could still hear the noise through the wall.)

From that tiny apartment, over the time span of a couple of years, with my husband’s help and support, I built a multiple six-figure business.

Which led us to the point where, just last week, we were able to purchase our dream home.

A spacious, sun filled 4 bedroom/3 bathroom Mediterranean style home, completely remodeled, with ceramic tile floors throughout, granite counter tops, a Jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom, French doors, fruit trees, a beautiful patio and a gigantic outdoors pool.

It was “love” at first sight. The moment we stepped inside the door for the very first time, my husband and I looked at each other, both thinking the same thing: “We’ve found it!”

And here’s the reason I’m blogging about this: If you are someone making excuses about why you aren’t getting results in your business, you need to STOP right now.

If I could build my business under those conditions I just described to you, then YOU can, too – whatever your predicament happens to be.

Distractions, noise, kids, relatives, negative friends, writers block, lack of advertising funds, lack of leads, getting shut down by YouTube… We all constantly face challenges in our businesses – as in every other area of life.

The difference between those who make it through the challenges and those who don’t, is that those who come out victorious approach things differently.

The victors don’t allow challenges to become excuses as to why something can’t get done.

They refuse to blame their circumstances. (Or their upbringing, parents, ex-girlfriend, high school teacher, sponsor in the business etc…)

They choose not to spend mental energy on those things because it just isn’t helpful. In fact, it only makes it worse.

Instead, they let their minds dwell on POSITIVE things.

They think uplifting thoughts. Which is why, even when faced with a setback, they always ask themselves, “What’s GOOD about this?”

And because they’re optimists at heart, they manage to find something good in every situation. To them, every challenge is a lesson that allows them to grow as a person or a leader. That’s how they rise above their circumstances.

That’s the difference between those who DO and those who DON’T.

Facebook got started in a dorm room. Google started in a garage.

If you are poor, ignored, rejected, broke and out of luck, you are in the perfect place to turn things around and do something extraordinary with your life.

At least that’s the way I see it.
