One thing is to come up with a great money making idea but to turn it into actual profits, that’s quite another.

And the problem with so many of the ideas that unexpectedly come to us is that, well, we forget them just as suddenly.
How many times hasn’t it happened to you that you wake up in the middle of the night with the most amazing money making idea but you don’t write it down, reasoning with yourself that “I’ll remember it in the morning”…?
But DO you in fact remember it the next morning? ;)
”Help! Who Stole My Money Making Idea?”
As entrepreneurs we’re creative and inquisitive by nature, and when we do a lot of thinking, sometimes we get really good ideas.
Occasionally our brains even come up with truly brilliant stuff that can potentially bring about tremendous revenue and/or positively impact lives all across the globe. But that’s only if the ideas are carried out!
And of course we can’t carry out a money making idea if the idea is gone. So then…what’s the reason we lose those ideas in the first place? And, most importantly, is there anything we can do to prevent it from happening?
In today’s brief post I’d like to share a simple, quick, uber practical tip you can use to make sure that next time a money making idea comes to you, you capture it and keep it forever…
What Really Happened To Your Incredible Idea (Meet Doug Bench).
As I’m writing this I’m attending a marketing seminar in Southern California.
One of the speakers, Doug Bench, a specialist on the workings of the human brain, shared some facts today that should be interesting to anyone wanting to turn a money making idea into an actual money making product.

He started out painting the picture of why it is we so often can’t remember our ideas.
“What happens any time you learn something new,” Doug explained (I’m paraphrasing), “is that the brain stores the info in its short term memory. It may be the best money making idea in the world, but the brain doesn’t know that.”
“The brain isn’t able to distinguish between what’s important and what isn’t, and so, after anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes, the brain shuts off the idea in order to preserve energy.”
He continued, “The brain stores the information for an average of 43 seconds. That’s it. So you really only have 43 seconds, and then the idea in all its uncontaminated brilliance is gone forever.”
So there you have it. That’s the scientific explanation of why that great money making idea you had came and went so quickly!
Doug Bench should know by the way: He’s read over 400 books on how the brain works, is a public speaker, an author, and comes with the endorsement of personal development gurus like Jack Canfield and many others.
How To Never Lose Another Money Making Idea Ever Again.
“Are you ready for the solution?” Doug then asked the audience, proceeding to pull something out of his pocket. Yes, we were ready…
In his hand Doug held…a small voice recorder!

“This right here…” he said. “Do you have any idea how valuable this can become to your business? You’ll want to take it with you everywhere that you go.
Never give a money making idea a chance to slip away again – capture it immediately on your voice recorder while it’s still fresh in your mind, and before your brain shuts it off.”
Doug then shared the exact monetary value (it was several million dollars) of the ideas he himself has recorded and kept on the particular voice recorder he was showing us.
So simple really. And so brilliant…
It was at this point I reached into my purse to make sure I’d remembered to bring my own little voice recorder… I pulled it out discreetly and gazed at it – it looked identical to Doug’s.
The funny thing was that I’d only purchased it a couple of weeks ago: For some reason I’d felt strangely convicted that I needed to get a voice recorder because too many of my ideas had been slipping away lately…
Coincidence? Or confirmation?
(I’ve got my own theory, but we won’t go there right now.)
Let me ask you a question, though… How seriously do you take your business? Are you so serious that if you don’t already have a voice recorder, you’re going to take action now and go get one, so that you, too, can stand ready to capture your next money making idea?
I hope the answer is a resounding yes… Onward and upward.

Thanks for giving of yourself to help those of us who are on are way up the Hill. You are a woman with great knowledge and skills. I watch, listen and take notes from your wisdom. I will try to do better in my comments. RHINO
I think you’re doing pretty well with your comments, Gary! And you know you always get extra points for signing off with “rhino”… ;)
So simple, I have this problem when I think of lyrics to songs I might write.
In the morning they are forgotten, I could of been a multi-millionaire with many number 1 hits.
In the future maybe I will be…
Put your mind to it, Jay, and you will! Appreciate your comments! =)
Great post Lena – I use the voice recorder on my phone. It works well! I also have speech to text that I use a lot. It types my words and emails it. I can then just copy paste as a blog post or email blast. :-)
What other fun “unique” tools do you use?
I’ve been using a voice recorder for decades back when they were micro cassettes and as a music composer, some of my best compositions were captured that way later to be strung together in a concrete piece of music.
Had I not… I’m sure they would have been lost in space.
Those captured moments truly prove “Thoughts become Things.”
Thank you again Lena!
You are welcome, Steve – and glad you were able to capture that music!! =)
A brilliant sugestion I’m always forgetting things or only
half remembering them particularly names and bits of useful
information I think I might be able to use in my business If
10 bucks will solve it it will be cheap at twice the price.
Yes, do get one, Diana – it’s a GREAT thing to have!
Excellent brainy idea. The brain does work in vary mysterious ways.
Great Leana you are one step ahead
Haha, thanks Pat. Always good to hear from you! Keep learning and implementing – that’s the “formula”!
Yep, realised this! Googled one and found it on a site called bizrate actually. Never heard of this site but it looks good. Will also check Craiglist :) Thanks again :)
I love them and now that I have a smartphone I can use the voice recorder anytime even through my car’s stereo system. Its reall nice to have everything in one device
Awesome, Brett! Yes that’s also one way to do it!
Brett, that sounds like a very smart way to do it! =)
Yes, I have previously been advised to get one. And no, I haven’t got one. Blamed it on not affording one. Without even finding out how much one is. How silly is that? Right, this week I will find out how much I can get one for! This little tool can also be used for so much for, not just for recording fantastic ideas :) Thanks for the reminder! :)
Nadia, you can get on on Craigslist for about ten bucks!
