“The MLM leaders you see up on stage at the events, the ones scooping up the awards and the bonuses, they’re really no different than you,” said my mentor. “The only reason they’re up there and you’re not, is that they’ve put in more work than you, failed more times, and experienced more pain.”
This conversation took place a few years back while I was still fairly new to online network marketing.
What’s So Special About MLM Leaders?
“Do the work”, continued my millionaire mentor. “Be willing to fail if need be, and welcome the pain. If you do this, I promise that soon, you will be up on stage, too.”
And as it turned out, my mentor was correct. I worked and suffered a little more (a lot more actually), and before I knew it, sure enough, I too found myself on stage receiving awards.
That being said, what I want to do in this post is to look at three different ways that MLM Leaders exercise self-mastery in their lives. Of course this is very much in contrast to “the man on the street” who knows nothing of this discipline.
1. MLM Leaders Embrace Opposition
MLM Leaders differ from the average person in that when they face opposition, they don’t see it as a problem – no, they embrace it as an opportunity.
The opportunity propels the MLM Leaders into action – each challenge helps move them to the next pinnacle.
Opposition only confirms the MLM Leaders innate need to succeed. So, instead of cursing the world and yelling “why me?!”, they ask themselves, “What is GOOD about this?” and “How can I turn this to my advantage?”
This is one very important difference between these leaders and the average Joe.
2. MLM Leaders Pursue Excellence
When MLM Leaders have accomplished one of their goals, they don’t just sit back and kick their feet up.
MLM Leaders are always looking for new mountains to conquer. Climbing mountains is what makes them feel ALIVE. Which is why they always ask themselves, “What’s next?”
So, as soon as they reach one of their goals, they create another. The pursuit of their goals is just as important to these leaders as the actual reaching of the goals. In the their core being there is an insatiable hunger for “more” and “better”, an unquenchable thirst for excellence.
3. MLM Leaders Live Balanced Lives
Although competitive by nature, MLM Leaders are conscious of the fact that they also need to take time off for emotional, spiritual, mental and physical refreshment.
They know that the only way to build their businesses for longevity and avoid the “crash and burn” syndrome, is to create balance in their lives.
When an unexpected guest shows up at the door, when a friend needs a favor or a family member needs prayer, MLM Leaders are able to detach themselves from their work and take a ‘time-out’.
But these leaders also know when to close the office door, eliminate all distractions and focus completely on the task at hand.
The art is to know when to do what. When to put the “do not disturb” sign on the door, but also when to turn the desk lamp off and call it a night. Herein lies the big challenge…
The Big Challenge
We want to climb those mountain tops but we also want to live “whole” lives with time for family, friendships, fun and relaxation. Knowing how to create this balance also requires self mastery.
The good news is that self mastery in any area of life is something that each and everyone one of us can learn.
I trust this post has helped you better identify where you can improve, and what specific changes you can make not only to take your business to the next level, but to make your entire life more fulfilling – professional as well as personal.
