4 reasons YOU should have your own product (even if you’re brand new)!

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

Okay, let’s run through them, rapid-fire.

1. Offering a free product in return for your prospect’s email address is the perfect way to generate high-quality leads.

What makes them such high quality, you may be wondering?

Well, think about it… The prospect that has digested your eBook/report/video series or other product and liked what they were served, will be much more likely to become a loyal follower and customer than a lead coming in through a replicated lead capture page.

This lead, you see, has already been exposed to the value you have to offer and are going to be pre-sold on learning from you!

2. Having your own product instantly brands you as an expert – simply put, the leader your prospect is looking for. Imagine being able to introduce yourself as “the author of such-and-such a eBook/report/video series.”

You’re suddenly an authority, and that before you’ve even opened your mouth to speak!

3. Contrary to what many think, creating your own product doesn’t have to be time consuming or costly. If you’re not an avid writer or don’t feel like you have enough knowledge or experience yet to do it yourself, simply outsource the entire task to someone on Odesk.com or Guru.com.

There, you can get professional work done very inexpensively. Just be sure to comparison shop before you pull out your credit card.

It’s also a good idea to ask around for recommendations, perhaps in a networking forum like BetterNetworker.com (I used this a lot when I was new) or some other social media platform. You’ll find that your peers will gladly give you advice based on their own experiences!

New to outsourcing? You’ll be happy to know that it will still be YOUR eBook/ report/video series with YOUR name on it. Just as if you created it yourself! Neat, eh?

4. It feels awesome to have your own product! And guess what? When you feel like a million bucks, you’ll be more likely to act, talk and convey the energy and confidence of someone who’s worth a million bucks!

Which your prospects are going to pick up on…and you’ll come across as even more “successful” in their eyes!

You follow me?

It’s a slam dunk…YOU should have your own product. A free one to start with…don’t think it has to be “so perfect”…keep it short, simple, to the point, value driven, and focused on getting your reader results.

(When they see that what you are teaching is actually working, they’ll of course come back for more.)

Later, as you start getting great results in your own business and people begin to respect you as a marketer, you can start charging for your products. Which creates yet another income stream for you!

You just can’t go wrong with this one… Now you just have to go do it!

GO, GO, GO!

What this bloody ‘mixed martial arts movie’ taught me about knowing my “why”

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

The other night my husband and I rented a movie which, much to my surprise, turned out to hold a very powerful entrepreneurial lesson – and that without actually having anything to do with entrepreneurship.

Rather, it was a movie about – of all things – mixed martial arts. About fighting your way to a $5 million jack pot.

The movie, called “Warrior”, is a superbly written, acted and directed feature film, and I highly encourage you to watch it if you have not already. And, mind you, that’s a recommendation coming from someone who isn’t normally into fight movies.

But this film was different. This film was riveting.

A family drama set in the world of boxing and wrestling, two estranged brothers end up fighting one another in a mixed martial arts tournament. Though both are fighting for the money, the real stakes are obviously much higher.

Broken relationships, emotional pain, internal and external struggles, love, forgiveness – it’s all there.

But what I really wanted to get to here is the powerful entrepreneurial message I took away from it. (And I will try to do so without spoiling the movie for you!)

When Brendan, one of the two brothers, a school teacher by trade, is facing his opponent in the boxing ring and being given a horrible beating, it looks like all hope is lost. His opponent is forceful – much bigger and better trained than Brendan.

Brendan is being thrown around like a rag doll. He’s barely able to fight back. Until…after the 2nd round (which Brendan lost), Brendan’s coach, Frank, yells at him, trying to get his attention.

When Brendan’s hopeless eyes finally meet those of his coach, Coach Frank looks intently at him. “Why are we here?” he shouts.

No response.

WHY are we here?” he shouts again, even more forcefully.

When Brendan lingers, the coach answers his own question. “Because if you don’t win, you won’t have a home in 90 days.”

Indeed. This was Brendan’s “why”…this was why he had to win the prize. This was why he had entered into the championship to begin with:

Unless a financial miracle happened, Brendan, his wife and two children, would no longer have a home. They were facing foreclosure and every odd was stacked against them.

And then something inexplicable happens: Once Brendan is reminded of his “why”, when he realizes that failure is NOT an option, that there is way too much at stake, it’s as if his power returns to him. He gets his strength back. He pulls himself together…he is suddenly able to focus.

And when he walks back into the ring, it is with newfound belief, knowing that he can still win. Because he HAS to win.

I won’t ruin it for you by revealing what happened next. But I hope you see the parallel here:

As a business owner and entrepreneur, you too are in the boxing ring, every single day. You’re fighting a forceful opponent – in fact, your opponents are many. One is called Laziness. Another is Discouragement. Then there’s Competition. Distractions. Procrastination. Not to forget the Dream Stealers…

(I bet you can think of several more.)

Every day you need to put your boxing gloves on and brace yourself to face the adversary. And you can only beat him if you know your why.

What I interpreted as an entrepreneurial lesson is perhaps more of a human one. Whether we’re business owners or mixed martial arts fighters or something entirely different, every one of us needs to be crystal clear on our “why”. Why we’re doing what we’re doing.

When we know what it’s really all about – what DRIVES us into action every day – we experience super human strength. And then, truly, we can do anything we set our minds to.

Just ask an underdog-physics-teacher-turned-celebrated-sports-hero named Brendan.

How to be a “top dog” (before you’ve even made dime yet)

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

Are you someone who’s starting to experience more and more that your peers are turning to you for tips and advice? Is it, perhaps, even a bit overwhelming at times? If so, REJOICE!

You see, this is a very common experience for a “newbie” during their transformation into “master marketer”…I’ve seen it a thousand times:

You get to the point where you’ve been giving so much value in your blog posts, auto responders, videos etc. that others start looking at you as the go-to-person in that particular area.

It’s really exciting when this happens because it means you are being regarded as an authority – AND it means that success is not far off!

You may not have made any money yet, but the fact that others are treating you like and expert and authority is a sure sign that you are on the right track.

Because the money you earn, or don’t earn, is a reflection of your value to the world. When your value in the market place increases, so does your income.

To illustrate what I mean, let me share something with you that happened to me when I was brand new: I had learned to effectively pass on the knowledge I was gaining through article writing.

And because I spoke with such authority, because I did such a good job at presenting myself as a Leader, my peers started looking at me like an expert in my field.

One time, this person called me up to get some advice – someone who had read several of my articles – he wasn’t even a lead! But he was real nervous on the phone, thinking I was a marketing superstar or something.

The great irony was that I hadn’t made any money in my business yet! And, of course, I never stated anywhere in my marketing material that I was making heaps of money. I simply never mentioned my income.

But the fact that I had all this knowledge and spoke with such certainty and authority, made my caller think I was a top dog. It really is true that “people see you as you see yourself”.

Therefore, make the decision TODAY that you are a LEADER. Then, commit to study your craft diligently. Every time you learn something, share it with others… Be patient, take action consistently, and I bet that before you know it, people will start turning to YOU for advice!

And when that starts to happen…when people start “bugging” you, asking you for feedback on a website or for tips on affiliate resources, give yourself a big pat on the back…because, your breakthrough is now just around the corner.

Just keep doing more of what you’re doing and you’ll get there before you know it!

How just three bold actions a day can change the entire course of your life

Saturday, December 10th, 2011

If, today, you had only one hour to advance your dream – what would you do? If you knew you would get a “yes”, what action would you take?

I just got back from an incredible 5-day event for internet entrepreneurs in the Bahamas where the following challenge was presented by one of the speakers:

“Commit to taking 3 bold actions each and every day. The actions much be directly related to your dream, and they must be specific actions that advance your dream.”

The speaker went on to share how he several years back – at that time a nobody – approached a highly succesful writer to whom he was a total stranger, asking for an endorsement of his book… He was fearful, doubtful, anticipating rejection, yet he was determined to step outside his comfort zone and do it anyway.

Amazingly, he got the endorsement…and this in turn created a snowball effect in his writing and speaking career!

But what if he hadn’t asked because he was afraid of failure? What if he paid attention to his feelings?

“You must take action in spite of how you feel,” he explained. “Do it anyway, and then your feelings will change. You may even feel so good about your new bold self that you’ll want to do more of it!”

And this is why you should perform your three daring actions as early in the day as possible: your actions will set the stage for the rest of your acitivities throughout day.

So let me ask you now: What are three bold things that you can do TODAY to advance your dream? Remember, it’s got to be something that doesn’t come naturally to you – if it makes you sweat at the mere thought of it, it’s exactly the type of action you need to take!

I’m in the process of putting together my list of action items, and I’m pumped about carrying out this assignment in my own business over the next 12 months.

Three bold actions a day multiplied by 365 – that’s 1095 bold, dream-enhancing actions over the next year. WOW! You think that could change the course of your life? I can’t even imagine where I will be 12 months from now!

So, again, what are some of those action items for YOU? Is it asking someone for a break? Is it a phone call you need to make? Is it a project you need to finally get started on?

Be willing to put yourself on the line even though you know you may “fail”!

See, here’s the thing: What if you DON’T fail? What if, this time you actually succeed? What if you DON’T get the “no” you expected but instead a “yes”?

One thing is for certain – you’ll always miss 100% of the shots that you don’t take!

Make your list, and then join me in making your wildest dreams come true in 2012.

To call your leads, or not call your leads…that’s the question.

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

This is a follow-up to a post that I wrote recently on this topic.

The question is whether or not you as a home business owner should be calling your leads…

I used to call my leads when I was new at marketing. I don’t anymore – but that’s not because, as I became successful, I turned into a snob.

It’s because I’ve learned the secret of leverage.

Can you increase your conversions by calling your leads? Absolutely.

Will you have to deal with a lot of tire kickers when calling your leads? Absolutely.

Knowing this – that calling your leads can increase your conversions but that you’ll also have to deal with heaps of people who aren’t right for your business – you simply have to weigh the pros against the cons and see which way the scales tip.

It’s one thing when you’re new and have a limited number of leads. At this stage I believe everyone should be calling their leads.

But when you’re driving a lot of traffic, when you’re producing 50, 100 or more leads per day, it makes no sense to spend all day on the phone talking to people who, for the most part, are “just curious”.

Rather, what you want to do as your lead flow increases, is to introduce some sort of a “filter” into your sales funnel.

It could be an application…a survey…an evaluation done by an assistant…some hoop that your prospects have to jump through in order to qualify for your time.

I don’t care how serious you say you are – I only care about your actions.

Words mean nothing, but demonstrate to me that you’re serious and I’ll be happy to give you of my time.

To build a successful home business that continues to thrive, you need to generate massive amount of traffic and leads. And that part you need to automate as much as possible.

As you get new customers and distributors, that’s when you start taking a personal interest in the people…that’s when you give, support, help, coach, mentor and train.

And also..isn’t it really a WIN-WIN situation?

I mean, isn’t it better for you as well, my new distributor or customer…that instead of spending my time and energy talking to leads, I’m spending it with YOU, someone who’s demonstrated that they’re serious and put their money where their mouth is?

The home business industry is a wonderful industry, but if you don’t have automation, leverage and time management in your business, then you’ll die the death of exhaustion.

And if you have to kill yourself to achieve your dreams, THEN what’s it all for?

I’m just askin’…

How to change your life (a fool proof strategy)

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

What makes one person come up with all sorts of excuses as to why they “can’t” do something, whereas someone else will simply make it happen?

What makes one person accuse you of insulting them, whereas someone else – in response to the same admonition – thanks you for keeping them accountable?

What makes one person blame their lack of results on their circumstances or on other people whereas another will look in the mirror before they look somewhere else?

What makes one person focus on what isn’t working whereas another will choose to dwell on the positive?

What makes one person fail and another succeed? What makes the difference?

Mindset.

Mindset is everything.

Change your mindset, change your life.

When your focus needs focus

Friday, October 21st, 2011

The other day I finally got around to watching “Karate Kid” with my husband…for the lack of something better to watch.

Okay, so it isn’t on my list of all-time favorites, but the movie was sort of cute…and a comment made by The Martial Art Master did give me some food for thought…

And that’s what I want to reflect on here in this post.

“Your focus needs focus” the Master said.

Wow. Humorous but profound. “Your focus needs focus.”

I don’t know about you but I’m convinced that most of us who think we’re already focused, don’t even know what the word means.

We need to learn how to give our focus focus.

When I started out as a marketer, I made a conscious decision to remove myself from anything that might hold me back, slow me down or have any sort of negative influence on my business.

I still find myself recommitting to this decision on a regular basis as I deal with a lot of different people and situations every day – many of which could have a very negative impact on me, if I let them.

I’m sure you’ve experienced the same in your life: if you allow the wrong people, or circumstances, to influence you, they make you lose your focus completely and keep you from reaching your goals.

Which is why you need to be ruthless.

When one of your reps whines on the phone, and you feel how they’re starting to suck your energy, say goodbye and hang up.

They’re not deserving of your time.

When someone writes you a nasty email, calling your opportunity a scam, you don’t react or reply – you delete the message and go back to your profit producing activities.

You’re secure enough of yourself not to have to convince people.

When a contact or a team member lets you down, insults you, or fails to show you appreciation, you shake the dust off your feet and move on.

You’ve already made a decision that you won’t let your emotions – or anyone else’s – get in the way of your goals.

That’s how focused you are. That’s how certain you are of where you are going.

That’s how committed you are to your own results, that’s how seriously you take your business.

Anything that looks like it may turn out to be a stumbling block is instantly demolished.

Nothing negative is tolerated.

Anything that isn’t productive is removed.

If it doesn’t edify, benefit, build up, or produce, it doesn’t belong in your business. You let it go.

This is how I choose to understand the Master’s words when applied to my business.

This, in my mind, is what it means to give your focus focus.

And, I believe, in an age of information overload, with constant distractions everywhere that you turn, and where – as always – critical people love to tell you “it’s too hard”, THIS is what it takes.

This is what it takes to succeed as an Internet marketer or home business owner. NO LESS.

If you’re ready to give it your all, you can have it all. (But only then.)

Are YOU ready?

Success in MLM: How to sponsor MLM leaders

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

Success in MLM…much of its secret lies in sponsoring the right people into your business.

Think about it: In the perfect world where you sponsor only self-starters (not grown-up babies!), you’ll never have to spend your valuable time on things like:

  • Trying to motivate your distributors to take action.
  • Listening to their whining and complaining.
  • Having them constantly contact you with questions when the answers are right there in front of them.
  •
    Instead, your reps will:

  • Take action out of their own initiative.
  • Take personal responsibility for their own results, or lack thereof.
  • Set out to find the answers themselves, not expecting you to be engaged in constant hand-holding.
  •
So how, then, do you go about doing your MLM sponsoring the right way – sponsoring the right people into your business?

Well, in marketing (as in most other areas of life) you tend to get what you ask for.

    Here’s what I mean:

An ad, for example, with the headline, “Serious Entrepreneurs Wanted” will attract a completely different person than one that reads, “How To Make $10 000 in 52 Minutes”.

(I’m obviously exaggerating here to make my point.)

A conversation with a prospect where you state that “we practically build your business for you” will cultivate one particular upline/downline relationship whereas a conversation where you let the person know they are expected to take massive action, will create a very different one.

Your ad, and the rest of your sales funnel – as well as the conversations you’re having with leads and new distributors – will create certain expectations in them.

But to truly have success in MLM, just as important as setting the right expectations, is this:

You’ve got to BE the person that you want to attract into your business.

    Meaning…?

If you want to attract MLM leaders, focus on becoming a better one yourself.

If you want to sponsor more quality prospects into your business and achieve lasting success in MLM, start by raising the bar on yourself.

The better you get, the better will the people be that sign up with you.

(Think about it: unless you yourself are the “right” person, why would that other “right” person – the serious business builder or MLM leader that you’d like to bring into your business – want to join you?)

The more skilled you get at your craft, the more confident you will become. And the more confident you become, the more of an abundance mentality you’ll develop. As a result, you’ll also better be able discern who’s right for your business and stop feeling guilty about turning the wrong people away.

Best of all, as you develop this confidence and self-assurance, other like minded people will recognize you as one of their own and be drawn to you.

    Why?

Because humans are attracted to those that are like them.

Leaders want to work with other leaders.

That’s how you achieve success in MLM.

That’s how you sponsor the right people into your business – people who will actually do the work and produce a nice, residual income for you rather than just add stress and misery to your life:

You do it by being clear in your communication about who it is that you’re looking for for your MLM. And you do it by first BEING that person you wish to sponsor…

Why your income will never out-perform your self image

    Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Today I want to tell you a story. As you’ll see, it contains an important lesson in abundant thinking. Here it goes:

It was just before four in the morning. Two men were checking in at the airport, passenger A and passenger B.

Both were traveling coach. Both were dead tired, not having slept much the night before. Both were offered the same opportunity to upgrade as they entered their names into the computer.

“Would you like to upgrade to first class for $135?” the prompter read. “This includes breakfast and up to 3 pieces of luggage checked in for free.”

Both passenger A and passenger B thought about it for a moment. Neither was rich. They both had many financial obligations. (There was a reason why they were booked coach to begin with!)

Though tempted, passenger A declined. There were so many things he could spend $135 on, he reasoned with himself. More important things. Traveling first class, that was a bit extravagant.

He sighed, completed his check-in for coach, and headed toward security pulling his oversized carry-on behind him.

Passenger B wavered a bit longer. In his mind he pictured himself sinking into the soft, spacious seat in first class, enjoying the extra leg room and a tasty breakfast before drifting off to sleep. The thought was more than appealing.

“I deserve it!”, he finally said to himself.

He accepted the offer to upgrade, quickly paid his $135, and walked over to the counter to check in his rather large carry-on, at no extra charge.

30 minutes later he was standing in line for security, noticing passenger A arguing vehemently with an airport official a bit further back. His carry-on was, according to the officer, too big to fit in the overhead compartment.

He was instructed to return to the ticket counter to check his luggage at a charge.

Passenger B proceeded through security, thankful that his own oversized carry-on had been checked so that he didn’t have to go through that same hassle and risk running late for his flight.

On board the aircraft, passenger B sunk into his comfortable seat in first class, stretched his legs, and enjoyed a delicious hot omelette, fresh fruit and a glass of tasty orange juice before drifting off for a 3-hour long nap.

In coach sat passenger A, tired and hungry (the suitcase drama had taken so much time he’d missed his chance to purchase food for the flight), and unable to get any shut-eye because of a crying baby in the seat behind him.

As they arrived home to their respective residences later that day, passenger A was exhausted.

Passenger B, on the other hand, felt refreshed. He was even able to get several hours of work in before retiring for the night. (For him, as a new business owner, that meant a lot!)

The same could not be said about passenger A: He immediately collapsed on his bed and slept for a full 10 hours.

They didn’t know it themselves, of course, but in the near future, passenger B would become a highly successful and wealthy entrepreneur. Passenger A would continue to struggle financially.

    The moral of the story?

Broke thoughts yield broke results. Prosperous thoughts yield prosperous results. Which is why your income will never out-perform your self image.

Which are you – passenger A or passenger B?

More importantly, who will you be moving forward?
